Weight Loss Programs – Only Three Categories

Weight Loss Programs - Only Three Categories

There are most likely very few people who have not tried a diet at one point or another in their lives. In fact, millions of people worldwide start diets every week. This is no surprise, as in the United States alone, 55% of the people are overweight.

The key to losing weight is to establish a diet intake of fewer calories than the amount of calories we expend in any given day. This requires a healthy nutritious diet balanced with a certain amount of physical activity. There are three different weight loss program types available and they consist of the do-it-yourself program, the non-clinical program and the clinical program.

If you decide on the do-it-yourself program, you are basically in charge of yourself. You make your own decisions, devise your own meal plans and develop your own exercise program. This requires research on foods and healthy eating. This knowledge can be acquired through books, online or from videos. You must also enter into some physical activity program, which can be done at home through video instruction, a walking program, an aerobic class or some other exercise class. The do-it-yourself program can involve group support from others in the same situation as you, such as Overeaters Anonymous. The support group is there strictly for support and does not involve any diet or activity planning. This type of program works best for individuals who need the back up and support to continue a diet plan, but don’t require advice on nutrition and exercise.

The non-clinical program involves weight loss chains owned either privately or commercially. These would include Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and LA Weight Loss. With this type of weight loss program, you usually have a counselor, who will meet with you on a regular basis, for support and weigh-ins. You will be given healthy eating plans based on your personal information, and advised on regular physical activity. Although a dietician devises the eating plans, the counselors are usually not licensed health professionals, but previous program subscribers. They often push you to buy their supplements, nutrition bars or prepackaged meals. If you choose this plan it is important to check with your doctor regarding the contents of any of these items. You should be cautious of any program that encourages quick weight loss fast and lacks physical activity plans. These will not establish healthy or long-term goals. This program is best suited for the individual who needs the constant one-on-one personal support to keep them on track, and advice on diet, nutrition and exercise.

The clinical weight loss programs are directly supervised by licensed health care providers and take place in a health care setting. They offer nutrition education, medical care, physical activity and behavior change therapy. They may also offer prescription weight loss drugs, very low calorie diets and weight loss surgery options for the morbidly overweight clients. These options are used for those who have a genetic weight problem or those whose health is compromised due to their weight.

Whatever weight loss plans you may choose, it is important to consult a physician before you start. Always be aware of the hidden costs involved with supplements or packaged foods, and know what ingredients are contained in them. In situations of great obesity, weight loss under a doctor’s supervision is best. And remember weight loss doesn’t end when you reach your desired weight. You will need to change your life and eating habits to maintain a nutritious diet plan combined with regular physical activity. This will prevent a reoccurrence of tipping the scales in the wrong direction again.

The Truth about Diet and Weight Loss I want to talk tonight about weight loss. It’s a subject everyone is worried about. And the problem is that diets don’t work. Everybody has tried a diet. I haven’t met a person yet that’s hasn’t tried something, from kids to people in their eighties; everybody has tried some kind of diet and they just don’t work. In recent studies when they looked at a lot of their major diets (some good one’s, Atkins, The Zone), they put them all together statistically …

Help answer the question about nutrition weight loss program

What do I need to start up a weight loss center?
I'm currently enrolled in a fitness and nutrition program from which I will receive a diploma. I would like to use that to start a weight loss coaching center. What I'm wondering is if there are any certifications, licenses or hidden hurdles I need to be aware of while I'm still in the planning stages. I'm thinking legally I need to have something in place to protect myself from potential lawsuits. This is a new feild for me so any information is appreciated.

Hey thanks that’s such a perfect answer or response. Really appreciate it!

does a fruit count as breakfast like an apple or a banana?

  3. Would it count as a complete and balanced breakfast? No, but eating that piece of fruit for breakfast would be much better than eating nothing at all. Also, it really depends upon your goals/weight/diet. If you eat that piece of fruit for breakfast and then eat every 2-3 hours (small meals) you should be fine. But again, eating something when you wake up is better than eating nothing at all. You need energy when you go off of fasting (the night sleep).

If you would give anything to lose this weight then start making a plan and stick with it:

    1. Get a physical from your doctor informing him that you want to lose weight.

    2. Find a local community gym that is free. If not, find a gym that is close to where you live and join. Or you can start out by just walking daily without joining a gym. This might be frightful to you because you are big and may feel that others are looking at you…………WHO CARES !

    3. 150 pounds to lose is a lot of weight. You may need to see a counselor to find out why you are addicted to food while losing the weight.

    4. You need to buy a book on binge eating/food addiction so that you can find out what type of relationship you have with food. Please keep in mind the following:

You already know how to lose weight. You know that if you eat less and exercise more eventually you’ll see the pounds come off. What’s getting in your way? Why do you usually regain the weight you lost? The answer to all these questions is the same “Emotional Eating.” Simply defined, emotional eating means you eat to satisfy emotional hunger; it means you use food for comfort or as a way to cope with life; and it means you eat for reasons other than what your body needs. Whenever you reach for a boredom-breaking snack despite your commitment, or whenever you eat to quell anxiety, that’s emotional eating. Whenever you binge after a fight, or double up on portions because your day turned sour, that’s emotional eating. Whenever you feel that sharp craving for your favorite food, that’s emotional eating. When we eat during these times while on a diet, we believe the diet doesn’t work or that we lack self control and then look for the quickest way to lose weight (fasting/diet pills, ect) after eating all we can since we already messed the diet day up.

Get control of your emotional eating and any diet will work. Best of Luck !

    Diets do work

Diets can work but because we know so little about ourselves and our relationship with food, it makes it difficult to win the battle. A lot of us have problems with dieting because we have a problem called "emotional eating" we eat to comfort ourselves during difficult, stressful, sad, etc times in our lives.

You may experience all those emotions during dieting as we continuously get on the scale hoping to see a big difference in numbers after dieting only for a day or two. Also what is stressful when dieting is that we try to lose a large number of weight in such a short period of time which in most cases is unreasonable.

This all brings about stress, discomfort and sadness. When we feel this way, we turn to our best friend for help and support which for many of us is food. The diet is now broken and we feel that we can't stick to diets. We then try fad diet after fad diet hoping to lose the original 20 pounds and now we may have as much as 30 pounds to lose because we continue to put on weight as we continue to break these fad diets by binging for starting our next diet.

Please learn about your relationship with food before your next diet so that you may achieve your goals. To help a little, keep in mind the following:

P.S. After learning about my relationship with food, I was able to drop my weight from 263 pounds down to 151 pounds which is a 112 pound weight lost

What you need to do is ditch this Anne Collins thing and go to a weight loss spa. I went to Fitness Ridge Weight Loss Spa in St. George, UT and lost 34 pounds in 4 weeks. Great hiking and terrific staff.

Stop wasting your time with this Anne Collins stuff.

Last year I was able to drop 16 pounds. In addition to jogging I joined a weight loss center in Ohio. Maybe you should try becoming a member of a weight loss clinic in Georgia.

It would have been impossible to loose the weight without some help and encouragement. I now feel great and glad that I did not put it off.

You got thumbed down? haha, thats hilarious, as complicated and as much of a huge money making bastard the weight loss sector has become, this guy has just told you the key to weight loss, for free.

  10. the same calories yes, of course.

  11. amie says:

Yes! http://www.sparkpeople.com .. you can customize the diet plans according to your food preferences, weight, age , fitness level etc. Best part is that it's all free. I've been using sparkpeople since july and I've lost 50lbs…so I know it works!

  12. The calorie content is the same. The difference is this. By sleeping in until 2pm you are going without food (energy) for a longer period of time. Specifically 4 hours longer than if you were to get up and eat at 10am. The longer you go without food going into your body, the more your body is inclined to store calories as fat the next time you eat. Why? Because your body is concerned with survival, not a perfect body. Also, sleeping too much can be detrimental as well.

Sounds like you are doing all the right stuff. Think about the rice dishes once a week, moderately, and add more spices …… Sounds like your doing all the good right things tho!!!!!
Being a diabetic myself, I've had to omit, bread, sugar, and starch…..and incorporate more veggies, and salads, and poultry,,,, no red meats. So I can relate. But sounds like your doing well.
